ST MARK RECEIVES NEW RANGE ~ Our church’s kitchen has a beautiful new commercial sized range. This appliance will allow us to prepare meals for more people who count on Meals on Wheels!! It will also make meal preparation easier for congregational events. Many thanks to everyone who helped make this possible!!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR MEALS ON WHEELS (MOW) The St Mark M.O.W. team needs help for December. We need contributions of food listed on weekly menus in the Fellowship Area, as well as a great team of volunteers who can be work on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve this year.
We have a wonderful ministry team of volunteers who continue to help feed elderly and sick persons in our community. Thanks for your many gifts used on behalf of St. Mark, and if you can help this month contact Carolyn Scheuer.
St. Mark UCC Meals on Wheels Program
St. Mark United Church is one of several locations for the Meals on Wheels program that is organized through the Brandon Meals on Wheels program. Our day to prepare and deliver meals is on Wednesdays.
Each week a sign-up sheet is prepared with food items needed for upcoming Wednesday meal preparations. This sheet is located on the back wall of the fellowship hall. Thankfully, This congregation has assisted the Meals on Wheels volunteers in providing weekly food items to be used in upcoming designated menu. Many see this as their mission opportunity to meet the needs of the hungry in our community. Persons receiving meals are screened by volunteers before being put on the client list.
They may be persons who live alone and do not drive, or recovering from surgery and in need of temporary assistance. This past year we have prepared meals for an average of 30-34 persons a week.
Currently persons serving on the Wed. M.O.W. team are Carolyn Scheuer-Coordinator, Jean Price, Emily and Doug Brown, Sue Kampman, Migdalia Morales,(Cooking team) Sara Andrews(Route Coordinator), Kathy Eldridge, Eileen Mason (drivers) and volunteer drivers from Cushman and Wakefield Realty and Brandon Best Buy(who deliver once a month). Heidi Adams (substitute drivers).
This past year several young people have joined us at Meals on Wheels for obtaining service hours necessary for graduation from High School or Middle School. Garrett Brown, Robert, John and Emily Price, Brittany and Savannah Molinowski are our regular contributors, usually preparing dessert and helping with the summer meal program. A Big Thank You to These Young People!
One of the projects for this last year was to explore the possibility of replacing the current household size oven in the church kitchen with a commercial size stove and oven needed for added cooking capacity. Thanks to a grant received from Brighthouse Cable Co. and contributions from other sources, a new 36” gas range will soon be in place. Meals on Wheels is always looking for additional volunteers to cook or deliver meals in the Greater Brandon community. Currently our route goes north to Highway 60, south to Bloomingdale, east to Mulren nen and west to Kings. Routes are divided to require 4-8 delivery stops that take approximately 1 hour to deliver. Delivery begins at 11:00 a. m.
